Tactaid VII is a tactile aid which presents coded sound information via seven vibrators. The coded
vibratory patterns are unique, consistent and learnable, providing information on a range of speech
characteristics, including: voice-voiceless sounds, inflection, intensity, temporal cues, and the crucial
first 2 formants that assist in vowel recognition. This information is transmitted through the vibrators
in four different ways:
place of vibration
movement of vibration
strength of vibration
duration of vibration
The detailed information available with Tactaid VII makes it ideal for speech production and
speechreading training. We especially recommend Tactaid VII for improving speech and language
skills in children.
